Sensory explorations for language acquisition | Thesis Project
Sensory Explorations for Language Acquisition is a research-based design project that investigates how touch and sensory experience can support the process of learning language. The book examines the processes and steps that I underwent while investigating how how tactile materials, visual subtlety, and spatial design can encourage curiosity for communication and language learning, especially for people who are blind or deafblind.
The cover design carries an illustration of two hands performing tactile sign language placed at the center, representing human connection and the exchange of knowledge through touch.
The design translates the idea of sensory learning into a physical reading experience. Inside the book, gentle color markings guide the reader through different sections, creating visual rhythms that echo the flow of thought. These colors are intentionally soft and unobtrusive, encouraging awareness of the changes of each chapter rather than distraction.
The project also includes a custom bookmark created as a companion object for the book. It reflects the visual language of the book and features references to written sign language and the illustrated sign language similar to the book cover.
